ALPHARETTA, Ga.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Cirrex Systems, LLC announces today the implementation of a long-term patent licensing program through which companies can gain legitimate access to its pioneering patent portfolio related to the international fiber optics market. Cirrex’s decorated optical technologies serve communications, instrumentation, and medical applications.
“We thought a widespread licensing approach would be the best fit for maximizing the value of Cirrex’s extensive intellectual property, and we have begun to implement that licensing strategy.”
Cirrex’s patent portfolio currently includes 30 issued U.S. patents, 17 pending U.S. patent applications, 3 issued European patents (validated in 12 countries) and encompasses over 1,000 claims. The patent portfolio relates to miniaturized optics technology and emphasizes managing fiber optic light using waveguides and nano-scale and micron-scale structures for beam steering, mode control, and filtering. Cirrex’s patent portfolio growth is fueled through internal R&D efforts (3 patents issued in the first quarter of 2012) and partnering with holders of synergistic patents seeking to realize value from their inventions.
Cirrex has retained internationally recognized intellectual property business advisors, IPinvestments Group, to develop, implement and manage the large scale patent portfolio licensing program. IPinvestments Group and Cirrex have been collaborating over the past year in preparation for launching the program.
Michael Wach, lead inventor and founder of Cirrex Systems, comments, “Our patents represent 20 years of product development and research backed by some $20 million in venture capital. Many of the most prestigious names in technology have validated and lawfully benefited from products based on our technologies. We are excited about our partnership with IPinvestments Group through which others can properly license our technologies.”
“We always like to work with inventors who truly want to see their patented ideas utilized in the marketplace, to further evolve technology and play a role in innovation. Mr. Wach is committed to the process of innovation and to the rights of inventors,” says Michael McLaughlin, Principal at IPinvestments Group. “We thought a widespread licensing approach would be the best fit for maximizing the value of Cirrex’s extensive intellectual property, and we have begun to implement that licensing strategy.”
When necessary, Cirrex has turned to the Courts to protect its patents. On May 21, 2012, Cirrex filed patent infringement lawsuits in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia against AngioDynamics, Inc., Polymicro Technologies, LLC, and Ocean Optics, Inc. Veteran patent attorneys at Heninger Garrison & Davis, LLC represent Cirrex in these actions, which cut across medical, fiber optic, and instrumentation industries. Cirrex is also in ongoing patent litigation against other defendants, including Cisco Systems, Inc., JDS Uniphase Corp. and Ciena Corp. and has settled or won additional lawsuits recently.
