PFAS, short for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a group of widely used man-made chemicals that can build up in people and the environment over time. PFAS are known as “Forever Chemicals” due to the strength and durability of their chemical bonds that make them difficult to break down and destroy. Thousands of different PFAS have been widely used in the U.S. since the 1940s. According to the CDC, most people in the United States have been exposed to some PFAS.
When people are exposed to forever chemicals, they can build up in their bloodstream and cause chronic, dangerous health conditions. Some of these conditions include kidney cancer, testicular cancer and ulcerative colitis.
Contaminated Water
PFAS have been detected in drinking water and water sources throughout the United States, including on military bases. Their chemical properties make PFAS difficult to treat and remove using conventional water treatment processes. People are exposed to PFAS by consuming contaminated water and food.
If you suspect PFAS contamination in your community or drinking water, contact Heninger Garrison Davis today for a free consultation.
