HGD held the official awards presentation today for the 3rd Annual “In Summation” Closing Argument Competition in the Stephen D. Heninger Moot Court Room. HGD Managing Partner, Tim Davis, Partner Erik Heninger and attorney Drew Haskins presented each winner with an awards plaque and a cash prize. Wayne Heard, a 3L at Birmingham School of Law, won first place in the competition. Drew Bentley, a 3L from Cumberland School of Law, took home the second place, and Amanda Wineman, also a 3L from Cumberland, won third place. Also on hand for the awards ceremoney was Anne Marovich, Director of Alumni Relations for Cumberland School of Law, and Tzena Gauldin, Firm Administrator for HGD.
Held in the newly dedicated Stephen D. Heninger Moot Court Room, the original field of competitors was narrowed down to a top six who paired off in the final rounds last week. For the final round, the competitors had to switch sides from their original argument in the first rounds. The jury was comprised of HGD attorneys and staff, and HGD attorney Drew Haskins presided over the competition as the judge.
HGD holds this competition for local law school students to help promote advocacy and reward those law students for advancing their advocacy skills. Congratulations to the winners and all the law students who participated in this competition.
