Birmingham, AL – June 13, 2025 — Heninger Garrison Davis Law Firm proudly announces Laney Thompson as the recipient of its annual scholarship award, recognizing academic excellence, community leadership, and a compelling vision for addressing the social effects of digital technology.

Laney, a standout graduate with an impressive array of leadership roles and academic honors, will attend Baylor University this fall as a University Scholars major in the Honors Program, following a pre-medicine track. Driven by a love for science, learning, and people, Laney describes her passion for medicine as rooted in “studying God’s intricate design in the human body.”

Throughout high school, Laney served as Beta Club president, Varsity Cheerleading captain for two years, and Neuroscience Club chapter-founder and president. She was also a First Priority leader, Student Council member, Mu Alpha Theta and English Honor Society member, as well as a school ambassador and FCCLA participant. She balanced these commitments with deep involvement in her church and service to Big Oak Girls Ranch, where she volunteered monthly.

Laney’s scholarship essay stood out for its insightful perspective on social media’s impact. “I was thrilled when I saw the prompt focused on social media,” she shared. “I’m passionate about encouraging others to unplug and seek genuine, real-life connections.” Her vision aligns with HGD Law Firm’s values of leadership, resilience, and meaningful community engagement.

The scholarship opportunity came to Laney’s attention through her mother, Susan Kirkland, who recognized how closely the topic aligned with her daughter’s values. “I’m so grateful to my mom for pointing me toward this opportunity,” Laney added.

HGD Law Firm congratulates Laney Thompson on her exceptional achievements and is honored to support her journey toward becoming a compassionate leader in the field of medicine.
