A TBI slideshow

HGD Law Firm attorneys Erik Heninger and Brandy Robertson recently presented an in-depth overview of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) to the St. Clair County Bar Association. The presentation, which took place during the association's monthly meeting, focused on the complexities of TBIs, common symptoms, and how these often-invisible injuries can deeply affect clients' lives long after an accident.

The opportunity to connect with fellow attorneys and professionals across St. Clair County strengthens our professional community and reinforces our shared commitment to advocating for individuals who suffer from serious injuries.

"Traumatic brain injuries are often misunderstood, and yet they impact so many of the clients we represent," said attorney Brandy Robertson. "Bringing more awareness to how TBIs manifest—especially the subtle signs that can be missed—is vital for both lawyers and the people we serve."

Attorney Erik Heninger also shared insights into his educational video series, including a new video now available on his YouTube channel that walks viewers through the signs and symptoms of TBI. These resources are part of HGD Law's ongoing effort to educate clients, colleagues, and the community about injury-related issues that demand thorough legal and medical attention.

At HGD Law Firm, we pride ourselves on being leaders in personal injury law—not just in the courtroom but also in the conversations that matter. Yesterday's event reminded us of the importance of collaboration and continued learning in the pursuit of justice.

Deepening Our Commitment Through AHIF

The presentation aligns with HGD’s long-standing partnership with the Alabama Head Injury Foundation (AHIF), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting survivors of traumatic brain injuries and their families throughout Alabama. Our relationship with AHIF extends beyond sponsorship; it reflects a deep investment in advocacy, education, and service.

Brandy Robertson serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the AHIF Board of Directors. Her involvement spans nearly a decade, including time as President of the Birmingham Regional Board and as a dedicated board member since 2016. Erik Heninger also serves on AHIF’s Birmingham Regional Board, where he contributes his legal insight and advocacy experience.

Through this partnership, HGD attorneys help advance AHIF's mission to ensure that brain injury survivors receive access to critical services such as resource coordination, caregiver support, therapeutic programs, and community reintegration. These services are offered at no cost to survivors, providing a crucial safety net for individuals and families navigating the aftermath of brain injury.

Why It Matters

Traumatic brain injuries often come with symptoms that are hard to detect: cognitive decline, memory lapses, emotional changes, and personality shifts. These can be easily overlooked without the right awareness, training, and advocacy.

At HGD, we believe that justice is more than a verdict or settlement—it's about restoring dignity, independence, and quality of life. By working with AHIF and participating in educational efforts like the St. Clair County presentation, we aim to ensure that survivors are not only seen and heard but also properly supported.

A Call to the Legal and Medical Community

HGD encourages attorneys, medical professionals, and community leaders to learn more about AHIF and explore ways to collaborate. Whether it's hosting a TBI presentation, referring a client for services, or supporting fundraising events, every contribution helps build a stronger safety net for survivors across Alabama.

Together, we can elevate the standard of care, improve legal outcomes, and create a more informed and compassionate response to traumatic brain injury.
