Massage Envy’s Policy Attempts to Force Women to Surrender Their Rights
Massage Envy customer agreements contain clauses discouraging victims from taking legal action. Courts frequently strike down such clauses as unfair or unconscionable, recognizing the vulnerability of customers who are asked to sign these documents without meaningful negotiation.
Disturbingly, reports are indicating that Massage Envy locations have discouraged involving law enforcement or notifying the appropriate state Massage Therapy Boards when assaults or harassment are reported. Further, there have been incidents where employees accused of prior misconduct remained employed, allowing further victimization.
