HGD’s Partnership with the YMCA of Greater Birmingham

HGD Law Firm is proud to support the YMCA of Greater Birmingham and its mission to strengthen children, families, and communities throughout our area. The Y plays an important role in Birmingham by offering youth development programs, after-school care, summer camps, volunteer opportunities, and community-based support for families in need. Its anti-hunger initiatives are especially critical during the summer months, when many children lose access to the meals they depend on during the school year. The YMCA of Greater Birmingham notes that more than 100,000 children may lose access to food during summer break, making summer feeding efforts an essential service for local families.

HGD Volunteer Day

HGD’s relationship with the YMCA is more than a sponsorship—it is a hands-on partnership rooted in service. Bill Bross serves on the YMCA advisory board, along with Jeanie Sleadd, and Tzena Gauldin is a past board member who previously chaired the annual fundraising campaign for the Birmingham Downtown YMCA. Their leadership reflects HGD’s long-standing commitment to supporting the Y’s work not only financially, but personally and consistently.

Throughout the year, HGD volunteers with the YMCA to help meet practical needs in the community. As part of the Summer Feeding Program, HGD helps collect and provide individually wrapped, nonperishable snacks, bottled water, pop-top canned goods, fruit cups, applesauce, juice boxes, granola bars, and other kid-friendly food items. HGD also donates reusable insulated bags so families and volunteers can bundle, transport, and distribute food more easily.

HGD also participates each year as a team in the YMCA’s Race to the Courthouse, now known as the Y It Matters 5K & Fun Run, to help raise money in support of the YMCA’s work. The event has been described as a long-standing Birmingham running tradition benefiting children served by the YMCA’s Downtown Youth Center.

At HGD, giving back means showing up. Through board service, fundraising, volunteer work, food donations, and team participation in YMCA events, our firm is honored to support an organization that helps children and families feel seen, supported, and cared for across the Birmingham community.
