At HGD Law Firm, growth isn’t a buzzword—it’s a commitment. It’s something we build into our culture, invest in daily, and celebrate at every opportunity. As a client-centered personal injury firm, we believe that when our people grow, our clients benefit. That belief shapes everything we do, from how we hire to how we develop talent and promote from within.
With a team of 16 attorneys and a 30-person support staff, HGD is intentionally structured to create opportunity. We don’t just fill roles—we build career paths. And today, we’re proud to highlight that commitment by celebrating two new hires and two well-earned internal promotions that reflect the heart of who we are.
A Culture Built on Growth and Opportunity
At HGD, we live out our CIRCLE values every day—Client-Centered, Integrity Driven, Respectful, Committed, Leadership Oriented, and Excellence Focused. These aren’t just guiding principles for client work; they shape how we treat our team.
We believe in recognizing potential early, nurturing it consistently, and providing clear pathways for advancement. That means offering hands-on experience, mentorship, and real opportunities to step into new roles. It also means celebrating milestones—because every step forward matters.
Our approach is simple: when people feel supported and see a future within the firm, they show up ready to serve clients at the highest level.
Welcoming New Talent to the HGD Team
Growth also means bringing in individuals who align with our mission and values—people who are ready to contribute while building something meaningful in their careers.
Andrew Sims – Personal Injury Paralegal
We’re excited to welcome Andrew Sims as our newest Personal Injury Paralegal. A Birmingham native, Andrew brings both local roots and a strong foundation in legal work and client service.
With a background in criminal justice and a paralegal certificate, Andrew has already developed key skills in legal research, drafting, and client communication through his prior experience in a personal injury setting. His ability to manage medical records, assist with case development, and communicate clearly with clients makes him a natural fit for our team.
Beyond his professional qualifications, Andrew’s background in athletics and team environments reflects the kind of collaborative mindset we value at HGD. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or even performing in choir, he’s consistently demonstrated discipline, energy, and commitment.
Working closely with attorney Adam Parker, Andrew will play a key role in guiding clients through their legal journey—ensuring they feel informed, respected, and supported every step of the way.
Kayla Marie (KM) Van Norman – Front Office Coordinator
We’re also proud to welcome Kayla Marie (KM) Van Norman as one of our Front Office Coordinators.
KM is a Birmingham native and currently a senior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She brings a warm, approachable presence to our front office—an essential part of the client experience at HGD.
As one of the first people our clients meet, KM helps set the tone for everything that follows. Whether greeting someone walking through our doors or assisting over the phone, her role is about creating a sense of comfort and trust from the very beginning.
Outside of work and school, KM enjoys staying active, exploring the outdoors, discovering new restaurants, and spending time with family and pets. That balance and energy translate into the kind of welcoming environment we strive to create for every client interaction.
Promoting from Within: Real Career Paths in Action
While hiring great people is important, what truly sets HGD apart is our commitment to developing talent from within. We don’t just talk about career growth—we actively create it.
Tamara Boman – Promoted to Legal Assistant, Mass Tort Department
We’re proud to announce the promotion of Tamara Boman to Legal Assistant in our Mass Tort Department.
Tamara’s journey is a powerful example of purpose-driven growth. With more than a decade of dedication to jail ministry and advocacy work, she has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to serving others. Her academic background—including a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Alabama and advanced paralegal training through Barbri and Auburn University—reflects her dedication to continuous learning.
In 2025, Tamara expanded her impact even further by completing training with CASA of Jefferson County and being sworn in to advocate for children in the legal system. That same passion carries into her work at HGD, where she approaches every case with empathy, diligence, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Her promotion is not just a recognition of her skills—it’s a reflection of our belief in investing in people who are committed to making a difference. As she continues pursuing coursework in medical records summarization and prepares for a future master’s degree in counseling and therapy, we’re proud to support her evolving career path.
Abigail Bowser – Promoted to Mass Tort Client Intake Specialist
Abigail Bowser’s promotion is another example of how intentional growth happens at HGD.
Starting as a Front Office Coordinator, Abigail became a familiar and welcoming face for countless clients. She played a vital role in shaping first impressions—ensuring that every person who reached out to HGD felt seen, heard, and respected.
Now, she’s stepping into a new role as a Mass Tort Client Intake Specialist—a transition that reflects both her capability and our commitment to internal advancement.
Abigail shared:
“I’m excited to start my new position as an intake specialist. I believe my time as a receptionist at HGD has helped prepare me for this next step, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow within the firm. I look forward to learning more about this stage of the litigation process and continuing to build my skills.”
Her journey highlights something we believe deeply: the best people to grow into new roles are often already part of the team. With the right support and opportunity, they don’t just succeed—they thrive.
Why Internal Growth Matters for Our Clients
Promoting from within isn’t just good for our team—it directly benefits our clients.
When employees grow within HGD:
- They understand our systems, values, and expectations at a deeper level
- They bring continuity and consistency to client relationships
- They are more invested in outcomes because they’ve grown alongside the firm
That translates into better communication, stronger advocacy, and a more seamless client experience.
Our clients aren’t just cases—they’re people navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Having a team that is experienced, supported, and committed makes all the difference.
Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow, our focus remains the same: build careers, support our people, and deliver exceptional results for our clients.
Welcoming Andrew and KM, while celebrating the advancement of Tamara and Abigail, is more than a series of announcements—it’s a reflection of our long-term vision. A vision where opportunity is intentional, growth is supported, and success is shared.
At HGD Law Firm, we’re not just building a legal team. We’re building a place where people can grow, lead, and make a meaningful impact—together.
