Most days, the people at HGD are focused on one thing: taking care of our clients. Returning calls, chasing down records, preparing cases, and making sure nobody who trusts us with their story ever feels forgotten. It is serious work, and our team takes it seriously.
But every October, we set aside an afternoon to take care of each other. This year, that meant two celebrations rolled into one day: Boss's Day and our annual Halloween spooky lunch and costume contest.
A Few Words About the People We Work For
For Boss's Day, our support team wanted to do something more personal than a card passed around the office. So each member of the team shared a word or phrase that describes each of the firm's leaders. Not the polished bio version, but the real one, from the people who work alongside them every day.
Those words were collected and turned into a framed piece of word art for each person. The result is a portrait made of language: the qualities that show up most often rise to the top, and the details in between say a lot about what it is like to work at HGD.
It was a simple idea, and it landed. A good boss sets the tone for how a team treats its clients, and our support team wanted our leaders to know that tone is noticed and appreciated.
And Then Things Got Spooky
For the lunch, the office looked a little different. Our annual Halloween lunch and costume contest brought out some serious creativity, and choosing winners was not easy. Here is how the judging shook out:
-
Scariest: Abigail King, whose scary nun was unsettling enough that a few of us double-checked the hallway on the way out.
-
Funniest: Michele Hill as Mr. Potato Head, complete with every interchangeable part you could hope for.
-
Coolest: Anabel Braziel, who designed her own costume from scratch and showed up as a shrimp. Original thinking is a valued skill around here.
-
Best All Around: Amanda Fitzgerald as Raygun, the 2024 Olympic breakdancer. The costume was spot on, and yes, there were moves.

Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to everyone who dressed up, cheered, and voted.
Lunch, Dessert, and a Room Full of Good People
No HGD gathering is complete without food. Lunch came from Pizza Grace, followed by a spread of desserts that did not last long. Mostly, though, it was a chance to sit down together, laugh, and enjoy the people we spend our days with.
Why This Matters to Our Clients
With 14 attorneys and a 30-person support team, HGD is large enough to take on complex cases and close-knit enough that people still know each other's names, kids, and Halloween costume histories. That matters. A team that respects and enjoys one another is a team that communicates well, covers for each other, and shows up for clients with the same care.
Happy Boss's Day to our leaders, and Happy Halloween from all of us at Heninger Garrison Davis.
