For the second time in its Chili Cook-Off history, HGD Law Firm's team, "Brings the Heat," earned the coveted Grand Prize at the 2023 Exceptional Foundation Chili Cook-Off, continuing a tradition of community involvement, friendly competition, and support for one of Birmingham's most impactful nonprofit organizations.
What started years ago as a fun opportunity to gather with colleagues and support a meaningful cause has become a cherished HGD tradition. After earning First Runner-Up recognition in previous competitions and capturing the Grand Prize in an earlier event, the team returned in 2023 determined to defend its reputation. Once again, HGD's award-winning recipe proved to be a crowd favorite.
The victory reflects more than a successful day of cooking. It represents the enthusiasm, teamwork, and community spirit that define HGD both inside and outside the office. Attorneys, staff members, family, friends, and supporters came together to represent the firm, serve chili, and celebrate alongside hundreds of fellow Birmingham residents committed to supporting The Exceptional Foundation.

The Exceptional Foundation has been serving individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families for decades through innovative recreational, social, educational, and community-based programming. The organization provides opportunities for participants to develop meaningful relationships, build confidence, increase independence, and engage fully in their communities.
Through year-round programming, participants enjoy activities such as fitness classes, sports leagues, arts and crafts, music, cooking, educational workshops, field trips, summer camps, and social events. These programs create opportunities for personal growth while fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion that extends beyond the participants themselves to their families and caregivers.
